Injury Lawyer Vancouver

Nick has practiced primarily as an injury lawyer in the Vancouver area since his call to the Bar. Prior to joining Simpson Thomas & Associates in 2013, Nick acted primarily for insurers and defendants in cases involving vehicle-related fraud and / or personal injury. Such experience has provided him with a valuable understanding of defence practices. He believes that he is well-positioned to protect the rights of his clients as he assists them with their ICBC claims settlements.

Professional Experience

As an injury lawyer, Nick has dealt with an extraordinary range of cases, not only in relation to injuries sustained; minor to catastrophic, but also in relation to complex insurance issues and ICBC claims settlements. He has appeared at all levels of the BC Courts, though most of his experience has been in the BC Supreme Court. He passionately believes in justice, and equally as passionately believes that resort to the Courts is the best way of ensuring justice is done. Although an out-of-Court settlement is often the best solution, Nick feels it is comforting to know that the Courts are there if they are needed.

Education

Nick received his Bachelor of Law Degree (Hons) from the University of Sheffield (England) in 1995. He was called to the Bar in 1999. In addition, he received his Master of Laws from the University of British Columbia in 2004, which he obtained while practicing.

Community Involvement

Nick also has a keen interest in sports law, particularly regarding eligibility to compete in sports. His main area of interest is the various rules which govern anti-doping. Since obtaining his “Masters”, he has been a frequent guest lecturer at his alma mater on this subject. He has also given presentations in this area at various professional events.

Away from the office, Nick has been, and continues to be, an avid participant in the sports world. His primary sports as a youngster in England were rugby union (regional level), soccer (regional level and youth team of a professional club) and swimming (county level). He played varsity soccer at both SFU and UBC. He has been a member of the Vancouver soccer team which has participated in several Lawyers World Cups which took place in Europe and Africa. He has also coached several soccer teams over the years. In addition, he has run several marathons and other distance events, and has finished the Ironman Triathlon and other triathlon events, albeit all quite slowly. Nick sits on the UBC Men’s Soccer Alumni Committee and is the Men’s Soccer representative on the Thunderbird Council at UBC.

Personal

In addition to participating in various sports, Nick is an enthusiastic spectator and supporter. He watches both his children (two boys, who, between them, play hockey, and soccer), and follows the fortunes of all the local pro- sports teams, in addition to being a long-suffering fan of Sheffield Wednesday FC.
