Esther Chung

ICBC Personal Injury Lawyer

Esther was called to the bar in 2009. Prior to joining Simpson, Thomas & Associates, Esther operated her own law firm to focus on serving the needs of the Korean community. She later transitioned to a downtown Vancouver boutique law firm where she continued to expand her experience in business and real estate law, including real estate development and commercial lending transactions.

In 2016, Esther joined Simpson, Thomas & Associates so that she may focus her practice exclusively on representing those who have been injured in motor vehicle accidents. It is Esther’s firm belief that clients can benefit from being able to communicate with their legal team in their language of choice, and hopes that her fluency in Korean can help provide easier access to justice for those who may otherwise be discouraged or be unable to fully express themselves.

Professional Experience

Esther brings to her personal injury practice her experience and background in a broad range of legal areas. Her multidisciplinary perspective provides her with a unique advantage in ensuring that her client’s needs and concerns are addressed with a broad view approach, and in assessing the value of her clients’ losses from different angles. Her involvement with ethnic community groups and her experience with immigrant clientele provides her with a deeper appreciation of the cultural differences which need to be understood and translated in order to give fuller voices to injury clients.

Esther obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from U.B.C. in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2004, and obtained her Law degree from the University of Manitoba in 2008.

Community Involvement

Esther is passionate about giving back to her community. She serves as the Chair of the board of Hanin Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs (HYPE), and is on the board of the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, the Vancouver Korean-Canadian Scholarship Foundations and the Rose of Sharon Foundation. She has also presented as a speaker at a course for lawyers offered by the Continuing Legal Education, and provides many legal education seminars for the public throughout the year, and has spoken at legal seminars run by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and the Burnaby Multicultural Society.

Esther is happily married to Stephen Ferguson, another lawyer at Simpson, Thomas & Associates. She shares with her husband an avid interest in food and wine, and loves to travel whenever the opportunity arises.
