Bernie Simpson and Camp Miriam
At Simpson Thomas we place an importance on giving back to the community whenever possible. We contribute to various organizations as a firm from Spinal Cord Injury BC to the BC Brain Injury Association and also sponsor a few pet projects individually. In this blog post we’d like to highlight an institution that founding partner Bernie Simpson has been supporting for several years, Camp Miriam.
Camp Miriam: Summers Well Spent
Located on a 20-acre waterfront site on beautiful Gabriola Island, Camp Miriam is a Jewish summer camp that provides a unique camping experience for Jewish children who have completed grades 2-11. Camp Miriam is a part of Habonim Dror, a youth movement that has six other camps in North America and sister camps in fifteen countries around the world. These camps emphasize fun, sharing, inclusiveness, creativity and responsibility to the community while providing a strong framework for leadership training and the nurturing of self-esteem.
In line with the pillar of inclusiveness, the camp has a policy of “no child turned away due to lack of funds.” In order to support this policy, Camp Miriam relies on the support of many friends and alumni who contribute towards the Campership Fund, which provides subsidies to Jewish kids who otherwise would be unable to attend a summer camp that strengthens their connection to their Jewish heritage.
