Derek F. Y. Young
Derek obtained both his Bachelor of Arts degree, in International Relations (1997) and his Bachelor of Laws degree (2001) from the University of British Columbia. Prior to joining Simpson Thomas & Associates, Derek practiced for several years in general litigation with another Vancouver firm, where he acquired valuable experience in areas of commercial, labour and employment law. His experiences in these other areas enables him to better appreciate the wide-reaching effect that personal injury can have on other aspects of his clients’ lives.
Since being called to the British Columbia bar in 2002, Derek has represented clients before all levels of British Columbia’s Provincial and Superior Courts, as well as various federal administrative tribunals.
Derek speaks fluent Cantonese, and possesses a strong working knowledge of Mandarin. In his spare time, he is an avid swimmer, and is actively involved in community and civic affairs.
