Cathy Rizzo
Cathy attended the University of British Columbia Law School where she completed her Bachelor of Laws in 1993, having already completed her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees prior to admission to law school.
Since completing her articles and being called to the bar in 1994, Cathy has been practising almost exclusively in the area of personal injury law, representing victims injured in motor vehicle accidents. She has been practising with Simpson Thomas & Associates, formerly known as Simpson & Company, since 1996. Her primary focus is on cases involving victims who have suffered severe injuries including traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries, severe orthopaedic injuries, severe whiplash and serious psychiatric/psychological injuries. She is a skilled professional with experience in both trial advocacy and mediation.
Cathy’s strengths include effective communication skills; a solution-oriented approach to problems, no matter how complex; and, her ability to empathize to ensure the best possible representation for her clients from inception of the case to its conclusion. Cathy works closely with the victim and the family to ensure that the client’s needs are looked after. She is meticulous in her attention to detail to ensure that the best possible result is achieved for her clients.
Cathy has represented clients from all over British Columbia and from many diverse cultural backgrounds and, as well has clients residing in different parts of the world, including India, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Columbia, and the United States. She is fluent in both spoken and written Italian.
Cathy is a member of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia (TLABC), Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA), the Vancouver Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association as well subsections of the Canadian Bar Association including the Civil Litigation and Mediation subsections. Cathy continues to attend seminars put on by the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia and Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia to keep abreast of the latest developments in law. She has attended conferences put on by the Pacific Coast Brain Injury Association, as well as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America Conference.
When she has time away from the office, Cathy enjoys working out, theatre, opera, playing the guitar and singing.
